Why volunteer with SenExperience+?

As a volunteer in one of our communities. Living in carefully hand-picked host families for the duration of your programme, you’ll be immersed in a new way of life, free from the frenzy of the developed world. Instead, you’ll be part of a social setting where relationships and people matter more than any status symbol or riches. Bringing your unique abilities and talents to bear, you’ll be able to give back,while expanding your horizons and discovering more about yourself, your mission and your values. And you’ll do all of this in the knowledge that your efforts contribute to the sustainable development of Senegal and the Gambia.

About our Programme

We offer volunteers the possibility of choosing from a variety of projects. The projects and activities have been set up to offer differing levels of participation and, of course, all projects contribute to our overall objective of sustainable development for Senegal and the Gambia.

How it works

You will be welcomed at the airport by a member of SenExperience+, who will be holding a card displaying your name outside the arrivals area. You will then travel together by taxi to a hotel, where a room will have been reserved for you and where you will spend your first night in Senegal or the Gambia. The following day the representative will return to the hotel to collect you and you will travel together to the project.

On arriving at the project, you will be welcomed by the SenExperience+ co-ordinator. The co-ordinator will provide you with a welcome pack containing useful information for your visit. He / she will then drive you to your host family to make introductions and to provide you with the keys to your accommodation.

In all of our host families, we have arranged for well equipped rooms with a bed, bed linen, a safe and keys. You will also be provided with mineral water by a member of SenExperience+ and this will be replaced as required. All families are happy to offer laundry service. We promise that you will be welcomed with open arms.

The SenExperience+ co-ordinator will take you on a tour of your town (by car and by foot). During this tour the co-ordinator will take you to all points of interest : the post office, bank, Internet cafe, market, restaurant, cinema, swimming pool etc. At the end of this tour, you will be driven to your future place of work to meet the director of the institution, the supervisor and the colleagues that you will be working with.

At the end of the project, you will be presented with a signed and dated certficate, written in English, confirming your participation in the project. There will also be a leaving party either at your host family´s home or at the SenExperience+ office. You will be able to invite friends, other volunteers, colleagues. There will be music, drums etc. SenExperience+ will accompany you back to the airport and will pay all travel costs for the journey.

Drinks and other personal expenses. If you haven´t given us an advance warning about expenses you´d like to make for your work placement we won´t reimburse those. Therefore, please contact your local co-ordinator before making any purchases for your project.
